I get asked this question a lot. From my research, I have found that most Feline Behaviorists agree that females tend to bicker more and that males are more laid back. Also, in the feline social hierarchy, males and females have different roles so opposite genders tend to mean less competition. Another factor to mention is familial ties. Feline social structures are generally made of families and so siblings and half-siblings generally make it easier to get along. Then there's the age difference to consider. Two kittens/cats that are close in age rage can cause a peer friend relationship and ones that are further apart can cause a parent/child relationship but between those age gaps could cause a sense of competition that may strain any relationship.
